In the Balance and MCA, Sydney education program: Food Politics: Current Conversations Around Food and Sustainability
Sunday 24 October 11am – 3pm
Food politics: current conversations around food and sustainability will bring together presenters and community to discuss a range of current approaches to food systems in Australia in the face of intensifying environmental, social and economic challenges.

Food politics: current conversations around food and sustainability includes workshops and presentations from a range of speakers, maximising participants access to a broad range of voices and ideas on the topic.

Speakers include: Costa Georgiadis (host of the SBS series Costa’s Gardening Odyssey); Kristen Lyons from the University of Queensland; Dr Gyorgy Scrinis from the University of Melbourne, Ronni Kahn from Oz Harvest; Julian Lee from FoodConnect, Michele Margolis from Innerwest Seed Savers and more

With an increasing awareness of how global trade, drought and climate change, peak oil and food security can impact on food supply, the forum Food politics: current conversations around food and sustainability will explore current conversations, alternatives and possibilities for fair, healthy food and sustainability.

The program for the day will be wide-ranging, exploring the challenges and possibilities of different technologies and initiatives to cultivate more sustainable and just food systems, ranging from high-tech options like nanotechnology, through to practical, community-based approaches such as backyard produce exchanges, preserving and community gardening projects.
