Gary Carsley's practice is established via a working methodology that both technologically and aesthetically intrude on the photograph. He is a 'constant gardener', fastidiously researching and documenting public gardens and parklands throughout the world. His Draguerreotypes resist the idea of an 'original' and by extension break the indexical relationship of the image to its source. Like the parklands - they are a construction of another land in another time and space. This series of works has gained critical international attention from institutions across the United States and Europe, as well as private collectors.
